Small Groups, expert leaders
Our Madeira holidays run with groups of 10 to 12 people. Small enough to venture off the beaten track and create a genuinely sociable atmosphere. Every departure is led by one of our 250 qualified walk leaders, each chosen for their knowledge of the local landscape, history, and culture. In Madeira, that means knowing the finest levada paths, the quieter mountain routes, and the coastal trails that never appear in guidebooks.

Discover Madeira on foot
Madeira is a walker's paradise with a year-round mild climate, a lush volcanic interior, and one of Europe's most distinctive walking networks. Here is what makes it special.
The levada trails
Levadas are the narrow irrigation channels built over centuries to carry water from the wet northern highlands to the drier south. The paths running alongside them create hundreds of kilometres of walking routes across the island — from gentle, flat canal-side strolls to more adventurous routes passing through tunnels and along dramatic cliff edges. Walking a levada requires no navigation: you follow the channel and let the landscape unfold around you.
Eastern Madeira
Eastern Madeira is home to the island's highest peaks and most celebrated walks. The Boca da Corrida to Curral das Freiras trail follows a spectacular ridge above the dramatic caldera known as the Valley of the Nuns. The cable car up to Monte offers sweeping views across Funchal and out to the Atlantic. The eastern tip of the island is scattered with extraordinary volcanic rock formations in vivid colours found nowhere else in Europe.
Western Madeira
The west of Maderia takes you into quieter, wilder territory. The Laurisilva Forest in the northwest is a UNESCO World Heritage Site — a mossy, mist-wrapped subtropical woodland that once covered much of southern Europe. The remote village of Porto Moniz sits beside natural saltwater pools carved from the volcanic rock. The peaceful Levada do Moinho winds through traditional watermills and cobbled village lanes before climbing to open hilltop views.
Complete Madeira
Our Complete Madeira holiday combines both itineraries into a single 14-night journey from £2,049, letting you experience the island from end to end.
