We operate with a wholly charitable ethos, our surplus profit is channelled back into the Ramble Worldwide Outdoor Trust. Our Trust is passionate about making the outdoors more accessible for more people from all communities. We grant funds to many organisations and have recently partnered with Mind Over Mountains, Adaptive Grand Slam and other groups to create an enduring impact on people’s lives and to support them to enjoy the outdoors. Patron of the Trust is the renowned explorer Mark Wood. Over 20 years Mark has undertaken expeditions to some of the most remote parts of our planet. Our shared values make for an exciting partnership, and we believe that by standing shoulder to shoulder we can encourage people from all communities to enjoy being active outdoors in whatever way suits them best.
The Trust has played a significant part in enabling greater access to the outdoors to a wide range of individuals, recently granting funds to both small and large initiatives. Read a summary of our impact and the organisations that we are supporting.
Unlike many tour operators, Ramble Worldwide has our own charitable trust which supports a variety of outdoor, walking related or environmental conservation projects. The Trust receives regular applications and gives awards to support groups that encourage responsible outdoor activity, introduce new people to the outdoors and have long-lasting benefits. We focus on encouraging both young and old to experience the beauty and rewards that our countryside can bring.
At the Ramble Worldwide Outdoor Trust we’re keen to enable groups and individuals to access and enjoy the outdoors. We’re aiming to give financial grants to support outdoor-related activities for people from all communities, especially for people who couldn’t take part without our help.
You can see examples of who and what we’ve funded before below, where there are details on a few of the larger projects we have funded recently with The Ramblers, Mind Over Mountains, National Trails UK and Adaptive Grand Slam. You can see more on our Trust in Action pages too. These will give you an idea of past applications that have been a ‘good fit’ and help you consider whether yours might be successful.
Our grants range from a few hundred to several thousand pounds. They can be one-off or multi-year. Remember we’re more likely to fund you if your activities are closely aligned with our main objectives which are to promote, encourage, facilitate and assist in:
1. Getting people active outdoors through walking and other activities to improve their well-being.
2. Advancing knowledge, conservation and protection of the beauty of the countryside.
3. Improving and protecting access to footpaths and other countryside rights of way.
If your project or initiative aims to support outdoor-related activities for people from all communities, you may qualify for a grant. Simply click the link below and submit the online application form. The Trustees may ask for further information, and they may visit you or request to interview you in support of your application
We generally do support:
Applicants who would otherwise not have the funds to achieve their aims.
Applications aimed at increasing the knowledge, outdoor-access and well-being of young people.
Applications from ‘hard to reach’ communities for whom access to the countryside is more difficult.
Applications which are key one-off projects that will make a difference to many people.
Applications to part-fund activities or projects from smaller organisations who are seeking a mix of funders You can submit your application by clicking the link below and filling out an application.
We generally don’t support:
Applications for on-going salary costs or overheads (exceptions considered for volunteer costs).
Applications from bigger and well-funded organisations who have their own resources.
Applications for legal or political campaigning.
Applications for funding of more than £10,000.
Applications from outside UK.
The Trustees meet formally every quarter to review applications and make awards, using a thorough assessment which seeks to avoid bias of any kind. We pay particular attention to how your project fits within and assists the delivery of our charitable objectives.
The meetings are generally in late January, March, July and November.
Applicants will need to have submitted their completed forms at least 21 days prior to these meeting dates to be considered at the relevant meeting. Grants can generally only be paid into organisation rather than individual bank accounts. Two referees will be required to support your application.
We’d like more people to hear about what we do and who we fund. One of the conditions of a grant will be that you promote our support through social and other media channels. We can provide you with our logo and other brand assets.
Note the the Trust and Ramble Worldwide, with relevant permissions, may publicise information about your organisation and the activity we have funded, including the amount of the grant. This information may appear in media releases, in print and online.
We have provided £400,000 of support to the Ramblers 'Don't Lose Your Way' campaign. This project has found 49,138 miles of rights of way missing from the definitive map in England and Wales, which the Ramblers is now racing to save by 2026.
We are delighted to have agreed a three-year partnership with the charity Mind Over Mountains (MOM) which will see hundreds more disadvantaged people accessing the outdoors through well-being walks and retreats courtesy of bursary funding from our Trust.
Working with National Trails UK, we have provided much needed funds to support signposting and waymarking along the Cotswold Way, Pennine Bridleway and Thames Path national trials, to improve access to key paths across the country.
In April 2025 Sherbourne Fields School, a school for those with learning and other disabilities, is undertaking an expedition to Svalbard in Norway, to be led by Ramble Worldwide Outdoor Trust patron Mark Wood, a journey designed to shift perception and challenge us all.
Adaptive GrandSlam (AGS) is an organisation designed specifically to challenge and support members of the disabled community. AGS challenges are designed in the outdoors to inspire and motivate. Which is why Ramble Worldwide Outdoor Trust has decided to partner with AGS.

Mark Wood, the renowned explorer, has agreed to take up the position as patron of Ramble Worldwide Outdoor Trust. Supporting others less fortunate is something Mark builds into every expedition which resonates strongly with our trustees and aligns with our ambition to enable access to the outdoors for people in ways they might not be able to achieve themselves.
