What does this mean?
Overview
When you sail north, you enter the land of mystery, remote landscapes and natural wonders. This is a cruise which unleashes spectacular scenery, rugged cliff edges, dramatic snow-capped peaks, thermal lands, electric blue glaciers and deep mysterious fjords.
Iceland is a destination you may have dreamt of visiting. Setting foot in the land of ice and fire is like taking a deep breath of fresh air into oxygen starved lungs. Iceland has vast open spaces and a landscape that pulses with continent dividing energy. The colours are rich and vivid, views expansive, and a unique landscape where Mother Nature is still changing its ever-evolving idea of perfection. Iceland’s volcanic scenery, rugged coastline and wild vastness truly excites the imagination. Ever wanted to explore enchanting Iceland, then this cruising holiday is perfect for you!
Your discovery of Iceland starts in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, from where you visit the continental divide and some of the dramatic waterfalls and geysers for which the country is so well known for. You'll walk in areas where the earth’s crust is so thin that steam fills the air. Explore Reykjavik, the most northern capital in the world, with a local guide.
Sail west to Isafjörður, a beautiful remote fishing village with over 250 years of history located in a remote part of Iceland surrounded by mountains.
The ship sails north to Akureyri to discover Iceland's incredible and unique geological masterpieces, and on to eastern Iceland where you'll explore Seydisfjörður on foot, a colourful remote town on the edge of the dramatic 17km long Seydisfjörður fjord.
One of the unique things about a cruise is that it allows you to discover extraordinary remote places that you would not usually be able to visit. In some ports of call you'll follow captivating walking trails and in some you will spend time with local guides, furthering your knowledge of history and culture during your exploration ashore. There will be free time in each port for you to explore at leisure, and your leader is always able to offer interesting suggestions.
Iceland has a reputation for being expensive, but on a cruising holiday you benefit from excellent value and experience more places than you would on a land-based holiday. At the end of each day’s activities, you'll return to the excellent food and comfort of the Fred. Olsen ship and sail on to another scenic destination.
