What does this mean?

Overview

Holiday Highlights

  • A one-hour session of yoga at the end of each of your walks.
  • Two after-dinner wellness activities - Yang Sheng & Yoga Nidra.
  • Speciality menu inspired by your yoga and wellness instructor.
  • Discover the less visited Western Fells of the Lake District.
  • Hassness Country House's hospitality and stunning lake views.
  • A chance to reconnect and learn new relaxation techniques.

Spend time walking in the stunning Lake District from one of the most beautiful and tranquil areas in the UK. We will provide you with a variety of moderate walks, some of which can be reached directly from Hassness Country House, your base on this holiday.

We won’t run out of incredible walking options, magnificent views or panoramic skylines. The walking may start around the valley floor of Buttermere, Crummock Water or Loweswater and increase to more exhilarating days on the summits and ridges of the Western Fells, but still within the grade of the holiday.

Each day, we return to Hassness Country House where our local, qualified instructor will provide yoga to complement our walk and stretch out any tired or aching muscles. Our instructor will be able to adjust the classes to suit your needs and various positions can be made easier or more challenging depending upon your experience. The yoga offered has been designed to complement the daily walks on offer. Simple practices that use breath led movement aim to ease out muscular tension and tightness and calm the mind. The practices are informed by the mechanics of walking and ironing out the quirks we develop over a lifetime. Classes are suitable for all levels from beginners to seasoned practitioners. Weather permitting, classes are offered outdoors in the spectacular grounds of Hassness Country House.

On two evenings, our yoga instructor will offer after-dinner wellness sessions to enhance your break; Yang Sheng for wellness and Yoga Nidra, the yoga of sleep.

Yang means nourishing or nurturing and Sheng means life, growth or vitality. It’s a Daoist self-cultivation practice to ‘nourish life’. Yang Sheng draws on a range of practices including food and culinary herbs, movement and exercise, meditation and other forms of self-care to balance and support energy, or Qi. As energy flows through the natural cycle of the seasons our self-care changes season to season. The after-dinner session on Yang Sheng will explore seasonal living and practices to support the appropriate movement of energy.

Yoga Nidra is a meditation technique used to cultivate deep relaxation and mental stillness allowing the body and mind to rest and rejuvenate. It is typically experienced resting in Savasana, corpse pose. It involves setting a Sankalpa or heartfelt desire / intention, then systematically checks in with the five Koshas, sheaths or levels of being: body, breath, mind, wisdom and bliss. This practice will start with a little movement so that you can drop into relaxation and find stillness for the duration of the session.

The yoga combined with the home comforts of the accommodation, excellent hospitality and incredible views directly from the property, all make for a wonderful retreat.
