Consider yourself a semi-seasoned hiker? Our Moderate grade itineraries (Grade 4 & 5) are for you. They are also suitable for fit and active first-timers. Previous hiking experience is preferable but not a requirement. Generally, your trip will consist of a full day’s walking at a moderate pace. The terrain will often be hilly and paths generally good, however on holidays in mountainous areas you can encounter some slightly challenging paths, too. There can be steep sections to tackle as these trips are a step up from leisurely grade walking. But they're easier than our more challenging grade treks that may feature longer distances or greater elevation.
An average Grade 4 walk length is 6 miles, however, this can vary from as little as 3 miles on a sightseeing day up to 10 miles on a full day, depending on the amount of ascent and descent required. Similarly, our Grade 5 Moderate itineraries consist of full day walks where some steep and rough ground may be encountered, averaging out at 7 miles. The exact distance depends on how demanding or easy the terrain is, based on the destination you choose. Picture exploring the Eastern Algarve’s famous coastline or the untamed natural beauty of La Gomera. Trek Turkey's Lycian Way or get to know Portugal's Wild Atlantic Coast. Further afield you could find yourself in Patagonia, or getting to know Cuba with the locals.
