Holiday Highlights

  • Explore the best of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
  • Be blown away by the immensity of Registan Square.
  • Explore bizarre rock formations in the Charyn Canyon.
  • Marvel at Islamic architecture in Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva.
  • Learn along the way with a local guide in each country for specialist insights.

On your Silk Road holiday, follow in the footsteps of history’s greats, Marco Polo and Tamerlane, through ancient trade routes linking east and west. Admire majestic skylines of brightly coloured minarets and sand-coloured towers adorned with intricate Islamic mosaics.

Pass through Kazakhstan’s national parks for spectacular views of its beautiful wilderness before discovering mediaeval Islamic culture in Uzbekistan.

It all begins in Kazakhstan; little known by westerners, but a land of wild and dramatic landscapes. The ancient capital (Astana became the capital in 1997) Almaty, is as spectacularly situated city as any. It nestles below the Altau mountains. Once you have explored the city you head off to the mountains.

You’ll take a small group tour exploring natural wonders such as Charyn Canyon as well as enjoying the highlights of Almaty.

You follow along the ancient Silk Road trading route to Uzbekistan's capital city of Tashkent, blessed with some of the finest buildings in the Islamic world. In Beldersay, you’ll hike winding trails past snow-capped mountains with a knowledgeable local guide. Then, in Khiva, discover architectural gems and towering minarets of gilded mosques before touring a traditional silk carpet workshop.

Travelling south, you’ll experience Bukhara where we’ll visit the spectacular sights of the city on a guided tour. Then on to Samarkand, a wonderful place and home to the impressive Registan Square.

You’ll enjoy learning the local culture and customs by meeting local artists visiting a ceramic workshop, craft centres, and attending a mini concert at Sherdor Madrassah. Returning to Tashkent you’ll enjoy some more exploration and free time before the transfer to the airport for the flight home.
