An Italian dictionary will probably translate ‘La Grassa’ as ‘The fat one’. Rather than a person or persons, Bologna’s nickname refers to the superb, world renowned produce that originates near by. Mortadella, Parma Ham, Balsamic Vinegar and Parmesan Cheese are the most well known, with Culatello di Zibello perhaps the most exclusive. We have plenty of time to discover the heritage of these fine products, walk in the Apennine hills and enjoy the historic cities of Parma, Modena, Ravenna and Bologna itself.
Aside from foodie delights Bologna is a beautiful city, its famous porticoed streets lead to medieval towers and ancient churches. From our central hotel there's time to explore the city on foot each evening.
